Jayleebenjamin Perspective on MY HEART CALLING - 2024 VICTORY 12 MIX

And for many years have been in activist and equality officer and an LGBT rights officer and disability officer dealing with cases for union members but also working for the government and during that time I've written songs and also made pictures and videos and mixes and now I am dedicated to getting that music out there and sharing my experiences but also to help other people

This song is about finding out who you are and for me being someone who was mixed face but also confused about their sexuality and people telling me is wrong to be myself this song really captures that battle to find out who you are for also to heal all the pain that has been caused by other people through discrimination and finding a way to accept yourself

My earliest memories of music go back to one there was about two years old and I remember him certain songs on the radio I was born under wondrous star and also there was a song that was used for a in the summertime by Jerry mungo and I remember singing along to those songs

I do not think that ever decided to be a performer I just thought it was something else quite natural to perform things to dance and those are my earliest memories I have from when I was four years old so I don't really know anything different to me before many as much as breathing

I think it goes into new wave electronic and pop music because I loved the 80s and I love the mixture of really instruments with synthetic instruments such as synthesizers and other instruments like that and I was introduced to that by Donna summer and there are four songs or three songs on the bad girls from which for all electronic music

I have always known what I like and I like so many different kinds of music for me it is always been about merging music and to me music is sound and there are no real rules around it there are some good guidance but at the end of the day if you want to create your own sound it has to come from what you like and crossing boundaries so mixing synthetic or electronic music and sounds with real instruments and bringing effects into it is something I like and that's what's produced myself

The things I have in my music all around my experience as a young person but of always through my whole life and it is about identity it is about not being accepted it is about loneliness it is about finding out who you are it is about things of discrimination and homophobia and gender discrimination. It is also about racism and being second class but also standing up through your rights and protecting who you are which can also get you into a lot of trouble because they go with against the system

This was a really difficult one but I had to think about the artist who matches a lot of my ideas but also where I'm coming from and has written songs to that effect as well and that would be Janet Jackson because her music is made so much effect on me and has influenced my life heavily. With the nation and control where so important in my early life and the kind of shade me to battle social injustice and also make people wear what's going on

These questions are very good but they're quite difficult but I would say that each of my favorite music artists represent different parts of who I am myself and for me Michael Jackson was a performer and he was a great dancer and singer and sunlighter and he produced some of the best music but also videos and he made such an infused impact on me through his excitement for music I always look forward to hearing the new albums for the k-outs and so look forward to seeing the videos. I for the spoke about Janet Jackson but for me rhythm nation and control and velvet rope really sort of epitomized for me the ability to to go inside yourself and really bring out what you're feeling about what is going on in the world but what is going on within yourself and the awareness of knowledge and the importance of making sure that you find out the information for yourself but you are free to make your own decision and not just believe anything that you are told in the media. The Donna is an icon in that she wrote some very personal songs which I identified with about the loss of another and the opening of her father and tap things subjects like homophobia and attitude towards sex and also as they protective of gay men in her life and she was the first person to do a film where nine of her 10 dancers were gay and it showed gay men in a very real but colorful way but in a way that we saw gay people as people and you've got to know them. But also her albums spiritually have grown and taken upon a spiritual awareness theme like with way of light and there was songs also on the confessions album which also dealt with spiritual themes of forgiveness of letting go of being open to love and many other things and have performers is also in videos and shows have also influenced me but also she is another icon for me

These questions do not get any easier at all and so if I had to listen to three artists for the rest of my life they would have to be Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson and Madonna. Produce music that has been very personal to me and also songs identify with and songs that help me express who I am but also let out the emotions and feelings and with the remixes as well it gives it an everlasting theme whereby you could listen to them forever
