LouLabelle Perspective on Honey
Hi, Im LouLabelle.
I am now a singer-songwriter, producer and composer.
I have been producing as a hobby since about 8years old but only the past year and a half I chose to do it as an artist and put my songs out there for people to find and cherish as much as I do.
At most, I want people to feel passion.
But I also want them to feel safe, to feel love (for themselves, for their family and friends) , to feel seen but also to feel encouraged .
I want them to feel the spirit inside of them burn for the better. I want them to feel their inner warrior fighting for them when they listen to my music.
Honey is the first song I've written based on raw emotion and nothing else.
I just started humming (the intro to the song) whilst in a melancholic state and felt it sounded nice. I recorded it and the melody came to me along with the lyrics.
I added bass and the song grew very naturally.
I wanted it to be voice focused and very minimal so kept that in mind when producing the song.
I mix as I go and I really enjoy that. Being able to create a soundscape I think, is an incredible thing to be able to do. I find it very exciting to mix my music.
I watched a video of how Finneas makes vocal chains and I found that invaluable for especially this song.
Cello. It makes me feel like melted chocolate.
I didnt have studio access at that point so I was producing on headphones or monitors in an untreated room. It didnt turn out too bad but that certainly was a drawback when mastering the track.
An interesting bassline. I honestly feel like bass is so underrated. When its done well it just makes a song sound so much better and also feel so much better. I emotionally connect to bass and low frequencies. They make me feel warm and fuzzy and safe so if theres no great bass, its like listening to a song in a tin can.
I only used three elements to this song.
Voice, bass and percussion.
I wanted this song to prioritise voice and feeling so that they could emotionally connect to it a bit more.
I am aware my other tracks are quite complex so I wanted to make one that is stripped back a lot and easy to listen to anywhere.
I made sure the bass came in to bring ambiance but also to replicate a heartbeat and percussion to be the supporting structure but thats about it.
Music for sure
Yes absolutely. In fact, its probably the most accurate reflection of who I am thats out there. I've never been able to express how I feel inside before putting it into music.
The worlds that my emotions and experiences make cannot be put into words sometimes but they can be translated into sounds.
