Who are you and what do you do?
Answer:

My name is Scooter Maute, and I'm doing this project to give myself freedom in creativity. I was in a band prior to this project that had some success but it came with a lot of pain and financial hardships (absolute poverty/homelessness). Now i create music in my home whenever i want with no cost. I do everything completely by myself and it's become so fun and rewarding. I'm just happy to create and share the art.

What is your earliest memory of listening to music?
Answer:

My earliest memory of listening to music is when i was a toddler running around the house while my mother played Keith Green tapes over her radio. I remember the sharpness of the piano and vocal melodies giving me so much happy energy.

What themes do you explore throughout your music?
Answer:

I currently really enjoy writing about depression and anxiety in an extremely dramatic/humorous way. I think it's good to find a way to laugh about the darkness. Religious trauma seems to be an aggressively recurring theme too. Sometimes I'll throw a little political frustration in there for extra flavor.

How does your background play into this song?
Answer:

The song is essentially a summary of the last year of my life and the feelings that come with it. The fruits of the happening, if you will.

At what moment in your life did you decide to become an artist / performer?
Answer:

I don't think I have a choice to not be an artist.. I know that might sound cliche, but i never made a choice, it was just always there for better or worse.

Answer:

5 minutes. It's really not hard to write fast if you just shut your brain off with an acoustic guitar. Usually it give a better or more pure product too.

What is the most random sound you have included within one of your tracks? Where did you find it, and how did you implement it?
Answer:

Toilet. I hang a mic down into the bowl of my toilet and manipulate the sound of it flushing to make the entrance into choruses hit more

What production elements do you believe are necessary to making a great song?
Answer:

Production doesn't make a great song. If a song is great it can be stripped of all production and still be great.

What was the biggest drawback when producing this track?
Answer:

I don't really have training or proper knowledge for any aspect of creating music. I'm basically flying blind.

How many beats do you produce per month?
Answer:

60-100 ballpark

Walk us through your music creation process, specifically for this song.
Answer:

It basically happens all at once. I write, record and mix at the same time. I start with one progression or melody and quickly build from there. Usually the songs are completed in a days work.

What is your overarching goal as an artist?
Answer:

My goal as an artist is essentially to make art.

What artist or musician is your biggest influence?
Answer:

I'm more of a podcast guy.. if i want music i'll go outside.
