Who are you and what do you do?
Answer:

My name is Odee O and I make dope hip hop & amapiano music that doesn't involving killing or hurting anyone.  I just want listeners to want to have fun and enjoy life and experiences to my music.

How does your background play into this song?
Answer:

I am Bronx, New York so hip hop is fully ingrained into my DNA. Also I have lived in South Africa and I was amazed by the Amapiano sound  so I fused both of my passions.

What is your earliest memory of listening to music?
Answer:

My first memories of listening to music are living in my parents Bronx apartment listening to the radio and hearing pop, hip hop, and eventually watching Video Music Box with Ralph Daniels

At what moment in your life did you decide to become an artist / performer?
Answer:

The first time I saw Kendrick Lamar perform live, I was like I could do that...that was the nudge to just start on the path.  Prior to that I wrote a hip hop song for my 5th grade chorus performance called "Our World" and everyone liked it a lot 

What genres does this release play into?
Answer:

Hip hop, Amapiano, AfroBeat, POP, House, EDM, 

How has your sound and style evolved in the last 3 years?
Answer:

I have released two albums in the last 3 years and I am releasing another in 2024, and my process has improved, my rap skills and craft have improved and I know myself alot better so my topics are more interesting I think.

What themes do you explore throughout your music?
Answer:

I explore cultural freedom, love, Garveyism, US Patriotism, Capitalism, dating, self awareness and self affirmation.

If you could go on tour with any artist, who would it be and why?
Answer:

I would go on tour with any Def Jam artist or any popular Amapiano artist so I could travel the world...I would include Nas, 50, and JadaKiss in this list.

How would you describe your favorite artist's music to someone who has never heard them before?
Answer:

Soulful,  lyrical but awesome musical vibez.

How would you describe your music to someone who has never heard it before?
Answer:

Biggie meshed with Tribe Called Quest, with some Common and Nas after coming back from South Africa 

If you could attend a performance by any artist, dead or alive, who would you choose and why?
Answer:

Probably Biggie, Tupac, and Big Pun to see how they command the stage and spit their lyrics live. 

What is your favorite song you have made, and why?
Answer:

That's a really hard one especially after making this new album "INCUMBENT GOLD" because I have a lot of personal songs for me on here but it's also just my best work to date, but I love "Top Floor" cause it's one part lyrical, one part dope flow, fun but it got a worldly vibe where anyone from anywhere can get into it. 

If you could only listen to three artists for the rest of your life, who would you choose and why?
Answer:

Nas, Kendrick, and Common cause I am going to get wonderful music with thoughtful and insightful lyrics on top...that's the best to me.

What does your dream performance look like?
Answer:

My dream performance would look like a mesh between a In Living Color Skit and a Broadway show production with dancers and props 

Who is your dream artist or musician to collaborate with?
Answer:

Probably Nas 

What is the strangest place where you have discovered a new song?
Answer:

In South Africa.

What do you want people to feel when they listen to your music?
Answer:

To feel like life is worth living and this song is exactly what you are supposed to be doing right now. Live your best life and live in the moment.

What three words would you want your fanbase to use to describe you?
Answer:

Dope, Groundbreaking, Exciting.

What is your favorite way of sharing your music?
Answer:

Its starting to become via playlist but I imagine that will change into performing it. 

Do you practice? How has your practice changed over time?
Answer:

Yea I practice writing, and performing my lyrics.  I probably go back and edit what I write more to allow me to perform it easier. 

What is the most memorable response you've had to your work?
Answer:

Probably just friends calling like YO, this joint right here is incredible!!! Makes me feel so good when the listener feels the way I felt making it.

What is your definition of success as an artist? How do you measure this success?
Answer:

We are already successful, the music is a manifestation of that success both internally and outwardly 

How do you plan on being a game-changer within your genre?
Answer:

I want to bring fun, peace, intelligence, and unity back to the genre of Hip Hop

What role do you believe the artist has in our society?
Answer:

Artist help articulate what the masses are feeling and/or thinking but we do it eloquently or with the edge that resonates with the listener.   I think sometimes the artist becomes the embodiment of the listeners consciousness or the motivator to the listener needs to reaffirm what their thinking is normal and it gives them confidence to believe in themselves.

Answer:

What has been your scariest experience while pursuing music?
Answer:

Wondering if anyone is going to like my music and will people accept me for my take on the music or perspective and just enjoy the music without judging me .

What has been your most embarassing moment while pursuing music?
Answer:

Probably early on the sound quality, I didn't realize stems and track outs were a thing.  My music production value was poor, poorly mixed and mastered or not mastered at all.

If you could alter the music industry in any way, what would you change and why?
Answer:

I would cut back on the murder and kill rap.

I would create slightly more guard rails cause while it's great EVERYONE can put out music the sheer flooding of music has taken away from the truly talented music makers who would be dope in any era of music.

What jobs have you done other than being an artist?
Answer:

I am a Cybersecurity Analyst now, I've worked has a Caddy, Supermarket Cashier, and Landscaper.

How have your other passions reinforced your process of making music?
Answer:

I played semi pro basketball so my grind in being athletically superior has fed my work ethic in music per I have 5 mixtapes on SoundCloud and 2 studio albums right now

Has being an artist made your life lonely? How do you counteract this?
Answer:

Recently yes at times I've felt lonely but I use the time alone to focus more on the music, my craft, releasing music and marketing and building my brand.

How would you define having an artistic outlook on life?
Answer:

Continuously enlightening. 

What is your favorite work of art?
Answer:

Probably my father's, so I used his painting on my first studio album, "Black Jacobins"

Painting, music, and women. 😂

What is the most significant lesson you've learned through being an artist?
Answer:

Patience and belief in yourself.

Do you have one main reason driving you to continue making music?
Answer:

I hear the current music on the radio or at clubs and I'm like I can make better music than that.  So I make what I want to hear more of. 

What is your overarching goal as an artist?
Answer:

To make the dopest music in the world and be able to live very comfortably and happy just making music and not have to worry about finances.
