What is your favorite work of art?
Answer:

One of my favorite works of art is "The Old Man and the Sea" by Ernest Hemingway. This novella is a profound and beautifully written story that resonates deeply with me for several reasons.

Why It's My Favorite:

1. Themes of Resilience and Perseverance:
   - The story of Santiago, the old fisherman, embodies the themes of resilience and perseverance, which are central to my own music and personal journey. His unwavering determination in the face of overwhelming odds is truly inspiring.

2. Simplicity and Depth:
   - Hemingway's writing style is known for its simplicity and clarity, yet it conveys deep and complex emotions. This balance of straightforward storytelling with profound meaning is something I strive for in my own songwriting.

3. Connection to Nature:
   - The novella's vivid descriptions of the sea and the natural world create a powerful sense of place and connection. This reminds me of my own roots and the inspiration I draw from the natural landscapes of Kentucky.

4. Human Spirit:
   - The story highlights the strength and dignity of the human spirit, even in the face of failure. Santiago's journey is a testament to the idea that success isn't just about the end result, but about the struggle and effort along the way.

"The Old Man and the Sea" is a timeless piece of literature that continues to inspire me both as a writer and a musician. It’s a reminder of the power of perseverance, the beauty of simplicity, and the strength of the human spirit.

If I could go on tour with any artist, it would be someone like Chris Stapleton. Not only is he an incredible performer with a powerful voice and heartfelt lyrics, but he's also a God-fearing artist who brings a sense of authenticity and soul to his music. Touring with someone like Chris would not only be an amazing experience in terms of performance, but it would also be an opportunity for personal and spiritual growth.

What themes do you explore throughout your music?
Answer:

In my music, I explore a variety of themes that are deeply rooted in my personal experiences. Here are some of the main themes you’ll find throughout my songs:

1. Resilience and Perseverance: Having faced significant challenges, including my time behind bars, my music often reflects the strength and determination it takes to overcome adversity. Songs like "Finding Myself" delve into the journey of bouncing back from tough times.

2. Self-Discovery and Growth: Many of my tracks explore the theme of finding oneself. This includes the process of reflecting on past choices, learning from mistakes, and evolving as a person. It’s about the continuous journey of personal growth and understanding.

3. Redemption and Forgiveness: My music frequently touches on the themes of redemption and forgiveness—both seeking it from others and forgiving oneself. This is a crucial part of my story and something I believe resonates with many people.

4. Love and Relationships: Whether it’s the love for family, romantic relationships, or the bonds of friendship, these connections are a significant part of my life and thus a recurring theme in my songs. They capture the joy, heartache, and complexities of human relationships.

5. Freedom and Hope: After experiencing the loss of freedom, the themes of liberation and hope are prevalent in my music. I strive to convey the feeling of breaking free from constraints and looking towards a brighter future.

6. Reflection and Nostalgia: My songs often take a nostalgic look back at simpler times, cherished memories, and lessons learned along the way. This helps to ground my music in a relatable and authentic place.

These themes combined create a rich tapestry that reflects who I am and what I’ve been through. I hope my music resonates with listeners, offering them a sense of connection and understanding.

What genres does this release play into?
Answer:

This release really blends a couple of genres that are close to my heart. I tend to write what comes to mind and heart, letting the songs decide themselves as I play some chords. For "Finding Myself" and the album "Lost but not Found," I’d say the music plays into Southern Country with a good dose of rock salted in.

You’ll hear that classic Southern Country storytelling in the lyrics, filled with reflections on life’s journey and personal growth. At the same time, the electric guitar riffs and strong, steady beats bring in that rock influence, giving the songs a powerful, gritty edge. It’s this mix of heartfelt country and energetic rock that really defines the sound of this release. It’s all about capturing the essence of my experiences and emotions, wrapped up in a style that feels authentic to who I am.

At what moment in your life did you decide to become an artist / performer?
Answer:

The moment I decided to become an artist came during one of the most challenging periods of my life. I'd had a successful career as a software developer, but I ran into some white-collar trouble that I never imagined I'd face. After spending 40 months behind barbed wire and bars, my perspective shifted dramatically.

In those quiet, reflective moments in prison, I turned to music as an escape and a source of solace. It was there, in the midst of isolation and introspection, that I realized music was not just a passion but a calling. Writing songs and playing my guitar helped me cope with the tough times, and it became clear that this was the path I was meant to follow.

When I was released, I knew I had a story to tell, and music was the best way for me to share it. My experiences, the lessons learned, and the strength I found within myself became the foundation of my art. It was a tough journey, but it ultimately led me to discover my true purpose as an artist.

What is your earliest memory of listening to music?
Answer:

My earliest memory of listening to music takes me back to when I was about 5 or 6 years old. I vividly remember riding with my Grandpa out to our family farm. He had this old truck with a radio that seemed like it was always tuned to the classics. As we drove through the fields, he would crank up the volume and we’d listen to Hank Williams and Dolly Parton. Those tunes were the soundtrack of my childhood, and they’ve stayed with me ever since. There's something about those moments—the open road, the countryside, and those timeless songs—that made me fall in love with music. It was in those early rides that my passion for storytelling through music truly began.

How does your background play into this song?
Answer:

Hey everyone, I'm Tony Todd, and I'd love to share a bit about one of my tracks, "Finding Myself," from my album "Lost but not Found." This song has a special place in my heart, and I think it captures the essence of what many of us go through in life.

Inspiration and Style
"Finding Myself" is a classic Southern Country anthem that really delves into the journey of self-discovery. I wanted to blend the powerful, emotive elements of country, and rock with lyrics that tell a story of resilience and hope. The electric guitar riff in the intro sets the tone, building up with steady drums and bass to create that classic vibe we all love.

Lyrics and Message
The song kicks off with the imagery of walking down a dusty road, symbolizing a path of reflection and searching. The first verse talks about reminiscing and seeking clarity after making tough choices. The chorus, with lines like "Lost but not found, I’m searching for my way," really hits home the theme of finding one's path despite life's challenges.

In the second verse, there's a shift from sorrow to strength, emphasizing growth and perseverance. The instrumental break, with a powerful guitar solo, symbolizes the journey and hope that we all strive for. The bridge brings a sense of moving forward, letting go of the past and embracing new beginnings.

Personal Connection
For me, this track is about more than just the lyrics or the music. It's a reflection of my own experiences and the universal struggle to find oneself. Whether you're dealing with personal hardships or just navigating through life, "Finding Myself" is about recognizing that every step, every fall, and every rise contributes to who we are.

Musical Journey
Working on this track was a journey in itself. From laying down the guitar riffs to perfecting the vocals, it was about capturing the raw, authentic sound that classic rock embodies. The outro leaves listeners with a sense of hope and resilience, fading out with an uplifting instrumental that reinforces the message of the song.
