What is your favorite song you have made, and why?
Answer:

We Dont Want Your War, written in Feb 2023 following the attack on Ukraine. I wanted to write a song that reflected how I felt the day I heard the news - sad, apprehensive, resistant, forlorn. I used a sample from the public domain, Moonligyt sonata, whih I felt captured the bruality of a war that fell like ashes on a bewildered world consciousness.

How would you describe your favorite artist's music to someone who has never heard them before?
Answer:

It makes you hot and cold all over. Can make you laugh and cry at the same time. Can lift you up or cast you down.

Marvin Gaye and Bob Marley

If you could attend a performance by any artist, dead or alive, who would you choose and why?
Answer:

Stevie Wonder. His body of work is amazing.

Nirvana, totally rocking.

Marvin Gaye, that voice deserves an audience.

How would you describe your music to someone who has never heard it before?
Answer:

It's melodic pop with sounds that can elevate your mood or help you decompress after a long stressful day.

If you could go on tour with any artist, who would it be and why?
Answer:

Seal? We have similar voices.

Fat Freddy Drops, cuz the band has some mighty grooves.

Stephen Marley cause he has found his father's voice and Prince because why wouldn't I?

What themes do you explore throughout your music?
Answer:

Love and relationsips, war and peace, religion and philosophy, pain and suffering.

How has your sound and style evolved in the last 3 years?
Answer:

It's maturing. Sounds, textures, feel - I feel they are all getting better. Also I like to think the sound is getting sharper and cleaner as i learn my craft. Dont forget, I'm relatively new to this writing, mixing malarkey. Singing I've always done. But the mixing and producing is new.

What genres does this release play into?
Answer:

Pop and Rock! Prince in his early days, between PR and SOTT albums maybe. Maybe Alt Rock too.

At what moment in your life did you decide to become an artist / performer?
Answer:

Still haven't decided that. But during lockdown I made the decision to get some of my tracks out there while I had time to write and produce. So that's what I did. I still work a 9-5. But music is my passion.

What is your earliest memory of listening to music?
Answer:

Must have been four. Cant have been much older. My dad wad playing something on the radio, James Brown How Do You Stop. I couldn't stop listening to that song. It was mesmerising, compelling. It started me down the path of melodic grooves, a path I'm still on.

How does your background play into this song?
Answer:

I grew up in the streets of Kingstonn, Jamaica where reggae and dancehall was played on every street corner and every bar. On the radio however they played other songs, funner songs, like Stevie Wonder, The Bangles, Patti Labelle, Billy Joel and so on. This sort of influenced my choice of music. Reggae is my heartbeat but fun grooves informs my aesthetic.

Who are you and what do you do?
Answer:

My name is JohnThorin, not my real name. I guess you could call me a part time singer/songwriter writing with dreams of my music making a difference to someone on the world stage at some point in their life. I'm a desgner by day and moonlight as a producer/performer by night.

Answer:
