Arden Snow Perspective on Violet Dreams
My name is Arden Snow and I am a multi-instrumentalist/vocalist living in Colorado Springs. Aside from releasing my own music, I help other musicians with my songwriting, mixing and mastering, music production services and music lessons.
Watching the Thriller music video for the first time. I was like 4 and I remember being terrified of the video at first lol. Michael Jackson and Prince were my jam when I was a little kid.
Lets see. I think I have always known that my life would not be an ordinary one but to answer your question I would say when I was performing during a show in the first band I played with. It was a cover band in NJ. They were all in their 30's and then you had me......an 18 year old kid lol. I was brought on as their lead guitar player. Because of my age I could only be allowed inside the venues when we were playing, otherwise, I would have to sit outside.
But I remember sitting outside one night thinking to myself that while everyone I knew was worrying about what to wear for prom I was thinking in a whole different mindset. I loved the feeling that performing gave me and I loved the admiration it brought as well.
When writing my album Intervention I wanted to be able to cover a wide range of genres with the hopes that Intervention would be relatable to people. Where most of the songs on the album were more alternative and darker tones, Violet Dreams was meant to be the flipside. So where there are nightmares, Violet Dreams is the uplifting dream to bring you out of the darkness. Genre wise I would say Violet Dreams would fall under the alternative pop and dream pop genres.
Great question. I would say my most important growth as a songwriter happened in the last 2-3 years. I have always worked in music in some avenue, however, I was always working on other peoples music as a session player or live performer and not devoting any time towards furthering my own ambitions.
So after finally sitting back and saying "Fuck it. I'll do it myself." due to my frustration at not being able to find a reliable vocalist, I started focusing all of my efforts into discovering who I am and what sound I can bring to people? It was my first foray into fully producing my own work which has been quite an adventure. But in those 3 years, I was able to develop into the songwriter I am now. I was able to shape my sound into something truly unique and original. It took me failing miserably to do so but in the end I feel it was definitely worth it.
My latest album Intervention is very self reflective. I have struggled with addiction over the years and Intervention was very healing for me as it forced me to confront and look at the person I've become; good and bad.
Intervention is dark, chaotic, and at times cynical. But the album is also heartening, enlightful and inspiring. It is an album of reflective choice.
Hmmmm this would be a fun one. I think ultimately the answer would be Trent Reznor. He has be such a tremendous influence in my development as an artist.
With a review from someone else lol.....
A review on Violet Dreams from a 29 year old male:
"The track exudes a pop essence, enriched by its arrangement and vital elements. Its vocals, beat, composition, and musical construction resonate profoundly. Its lyrical content is imaginative and eloquent, delivering a lucid message."
Easy...........Queen and I mean original Queen with Freddie Mercury. I would have loved to see him perform.
1) Dylan.................2) DYLAN....................3) DYLAN lol who knows what that's from f*ck I feel old lol.
Let's see
- Pink Floyd
- Trent Reznor
- Dr. Dre
That would suit me nicely lol
Luckilly most of the response has been awesome! You can't please everyone so don't try to but thankfully, I feel like my music has been very receptive. Being awarded from Audiosparx their Hot New Artist award was fun as I got to do an interview which was really cool.
Enjoyment, mainly I want people to enjoy what they are hearing.
I love the 3 artists that reviewers have compared me to the most. It feels like such a compliment to even be in a sentence with these musicians, although the third one I'll admit I did not know at first.
- David Bowie
- Nine Inch Nails
- Aphex Twin
lol ALL THE TIME. If you do not play your instrument or work on your craft you will never get to where you aspire to ber.
I have not set out necessarilly to be a game changer. I just focus on presenting my music and being me.
