Penny Taylor Perspective on Cuff

R&B

I stepped outside of the box of a particular genre and just started creating what felt good to me.

They are captivating and great story tellers.

Honest, soulful and real.

The scariest thing is fighting self-doubt.

For me, I see and hear music in everything that I do.

I found out through trial and error that is the only thing that makes me happy.

I have dealt with a lot of fake people. I even wrote a song about it. Never give up, the people you need in your life or on your team are out there. What is meant for you, nobody can take away.

I want to make music that resonates with people and allows for self-reflection, insight, and change.

Like any artist, I've had many jobs. You have to support the dream until it can support you.

I had an A&R tell me that he has worked with a lot of talent but none like me.

If you don't practice, you're not serious. I practice every day in one form or another.

I made the decision when I was a kid, with my USB microphone hanging from my ceiling fan. I've been practicing and finding my style and sound until now. I am still evolving and learning.

I get asked this all the time and it's hard to choose one. If I had to, to date it would be Cuff.

I thought something was wrong with me. It turns out that I'm just an introvert. Being alone is not a problem for me.

My earliest memories of listening to music are Sunday mornings. Music is blasting, breakfast is being cooked and the house is getting cleaned.

I would describe it as eclectic. I'm not that artist that if you heard one song you heard them all because they all sound the same.

I run a full gambit of themes because life is my inspiration. In life, you go through love, hurt, pain, joy, disappointment and list goes on and on.

Michael Jackson, Prince, and James Brown. No explanation is needed.

I'm on stage and there is a sea of people. I'm performing an emotional song and I'm having a moment. The fans are singing it with their phones out and this feeling just captivates everyone present.

Right now I get a lot of Partynextdoor, The Weekend, Bryson Tiller, and Drake comparisons.

This is simple. I plan to be authentically me.

Ultimately, depending on the song they are listening to, I want them to tap into their own experience. The integration of their experience and my music creates something unique for each listener. Whatever that feeling is, that is what I want them to feel.
