Just Snazz Perspective on Black Corolla

I am Just Snazz, a Black queer female hip hop artist born and raised in Detroit, MI. I create music that reflects my unique perspective and experiences, blending powerful lyrics with dynamic beats. My latest single, "Black Corolla," is a testament to my artistry and dedication to pushing boundaries in the hip hop scene.

My background deeply influences my music, providing a rich tapestry of experiences and perspectives that shape my sound and message. Growing up in Detroit, a city known for its vibrant music history and resilience, has instilled in me a sense of authenticity and grit. As a Black queer woman, I bring a unique voice to hip hop, challenging norms and offering a fresh perspective that resonates with diverse audiences. My music reflects my journey, struggles, and triumphs, creating a powerful and relatable narrative that speaks to listeners on multiple levels. "Black Corolla," for instance, is not just a song but a story that embodies my identity, heritage, and the dynamic culture of my hometown.

My earliest memory of listening to music takes me back to being in the car with my mom, older sister, and stepdad, probably on our way to Belle Isle. I vividly remember hearing "Candy Rain" by Soul For Real and "Mo Money Mo Problems" by The Notorious B.I.G. I would always tell them to turn up the radio or play those songs because they made me so happy. Those moments in the car, surrounded by family and great music, are some of my fondest memories and have definitely influenced my love for music today.

I always loved music. I played the violin in elementary school, loved going to music class, and enjoyed singing songs in Glee Club, even though the other kids made fun of me for it. Music was a constant presence in my life. My dad was involved in music before I was born and even worked with Freddie Jackson. My mom was always playing the radio. It’s almost like music invited me to be a part of it. Music has always been my whole life, so deciding to become an artist felt like the most natural thing in the world.

"Black Corolla" primarily plays into the hip hop genre, but it also incorporates elements of R&B, reflecting the soulful influence of my musical upbringing. The blend of these genres allows me to showcase my unique style and the diverse influences that have shaped my sound.

Over the last three years, my sound has evolved significantly. I stopped drinking and got sober, got married, lost my job, and started a new career. These experiences have deeply influenced my music. My sound now has more joy in it, reflecting the great and not-so-great moments that have shaped me during this time. I feel more whole and sure of myself, and that confidence and completeness come through in my music!

An artist I would love to go on tour with is Megan Thee Stallion. Her energy, confidence, and powerful presence on stage align closely with my own style and vision. Touring with her would be an incredible opportunity to connect with diverse audiences and create an unforgettable musical experience.

authentic, resilient, and dynamic!
