Theresa Rhodes Perspective on The Magic Wand
It depends on the song of course. It is always a wonderful feeling when the audience knows the lyrics of my songs and sing along with me. Ideally, songs have to give pleasure and make people happy or make them want to dance. But some of my songs are sad, reflecting the mood of a moment, and then I would like the audience to be sad with me and be moved by the song.
I had often done backing vocals with bands and had been spotted by a talent scout. I recorded a first album with a group when I was 18 in Switzerland. I decided to become a performing artist after writing my first song, Save Tomorrow, which I recorded with Jermaine Jackson. Save Tomorrow was a cry from the heart against atrocities being commited in ex-Yougoslavia and Rwanda at the time.
My earliest memory of listening to music was my mother who played the guitar and sang. She taught me all she knew and we would harmonize together. Music played a huge part in my African childhood. My school also encouraged me.
I was born in London and brought up in Rhodesia, now Zimbabwe. Some of my songs reflect my political and enviromental opinions. In this song, I imagine how I would use a "Magic Wand" to rid the world of greed and tyrany.
My name is Theresa Rhodes, I play guitar and I'm a singer-song-writer.
Hello, this is Theresa Rhodes presenting latest single, where I imagine how I would use a Magic Wand to rid the world of greed and tyranny. The lyrics of The Magic Wand speak for themselves. I hope you'll enjoy the song:
THE MAGIC WAND
All of you liars and power grabbers, dictators, war mongers and partners in crime, this very morning, since I feel so inclined, you'll self-combust and vanish from this earth.
If I was offered a magic wand, what would I want to wish for? If I was given the gift of choice, this is what I would want:
All lethal weapons, all ammunitions, all bullets, all rockets, and toys made to kill, I don't accept them, and I will interfere. I'll wave my wand and make them disappear.
May pure waters cover the burning sands. May wild forests swallow the concrete lands.
If I was offered a magic wand, what would I want to wish for? If I was given the gift of choice, this is what I would want:
Climate deniers, poison producers, polluters, traffickers and agents of greed, the show is over, you’re on your way out: I'll wave my wand and smoke you as a weed.
If I was offered a magic wand, what would I want to wish for? If I was given the gift of choice, this is what I would want.
