DAVIDD Perspective on Mixed Signals

My name is Davidd & I am a producer, singer-songwriter, arranger, & keyboardist.

I am a lover of 2000's music and the era that produced some of R&B's most consistent & unique artists such as Chris Brown, Neyo, Usher, T-Pain, Mario, etc. That being said, when creating the sound I wanted for this song, I wanted to borrow elements from that era & modernize it for this era that we live in now.

When I was a kid, my parents would drive me from Memphis, TN to our home state Louisiana on holidays & I would listen to lots of old school music in the car that they had on their CD's at the time. Music such as Al Green, Commodores, O'Jays, & more. I would also watch the "Temptations" and "Dream Girls" on repeat with my grandmother whenever we would visit. My family was also heavily involved in church, so I had a lot of Gospel Music playing around me as well. Gospel is actually how I started playing the keyboard and writing.

When I was in college, I wanted to write Contemporary Christian music & Gospel Music and do live recordings. I had written so much music that I could be a professional songwriter for the Gospel Music industry if I wanted to. At some point after college, I did some self-reflection and discovered that my voice was actually fit to be in R&B as well since that influence was still in me. I began taking my artistry & performance more seriously when I started attending open mic nights in Memphis, TN and writing more R&B music. I eventually became a full-fledge R&B artist because of this because I fell in love with the idea of creating from whatever was in my head.

The genres that this release plays into are R&B with the vocals, Hip Hop with the beat, and a little bit of Jazz with the chord changes.

3 years ago, I wrote primarily Christian music, but over the last two years, I began writing more R&B music. I also have grown tremendously in my music production skills since I first started making beats. Now, whenever I write a song that I get passionate about it, it ends up having the potential to be a hit according to my peers.
