Shovon Byers Perspective on No Longer

It's what I was created to do!

My definition of a successful artist when you’ve created something that started as a vision or sound in your mind and you’ve shared it with the world to see or hear.

As an artist, Im sensitive about my work but I'm also my biggest critic. Whenever I release anything that I might not feel so confident about, hearing people say they love it or "keep doing what you're doing" is always memorable. It gives me the motivation to keep going.

I always practice. Before I would just sing around the house. Now, I strategically practice by remembering what breathing techniques I need to use. I also play around with specific placements.

Original, authentic, & talented are three words I would want my fanbase to use to describe me.

I love to pull out a speaker in a room full of people and play my songs. I think the delivery is more effective when I get to radiate the energy the song makes me feel to my friends and family.

No Longer falls into the genres of contemporary Christian music and gospel music.

It was 2012 and my boyfriend at the time had a laptop, a mic, and a keyboard. We recorded our first song in our apartment, "Now Look At What I Got". It was the first time I had recorded something that I had written myself. from that point on, I knew that I wanted to do this for the rest of my life.

I can remember listening to music in the car on the radio since I was a very small child. I'd hear artist like Mary J Blige and Lauryn Hill.

I grew up in church with the christian faith. This song acknowledges who God is in my life and professes to no longer be distracted with the things of this world and focus on God and living boldly in Him.

I explore the reality of being human while growing a relationship with God. I explore love and relationships throughout my music.

I want people to feel like a normal people. People that experiences joy, trauma, temptations, triumphs, and failures. I want my music to be a place of escape from the old and a pathway into the new.

My dream artist to collaborate with is H.E.R. I would absolutely love to work her. I love her sound and she is so talented.

At my dream performance, we're in a packed arena. There are lights and a big stage. I have my back up singers, dancers, and a dope live band. We put on this awesome perfomance that we've spent countless hours in rehearsal trying perfect.

I plan on creating music that feels good but also promotes positivity, love, and growth. Music that encourages you to live bold for Christ without compromising the sounds of music you truly enjoy.
