Kursive Perspective on Soul Searching
My Stage name is Kursive. From a young age, I faced the challenges of my mother's drug issues, leading to our separation. My childhood was marked by constant moves across the DMV area, from Norfolk, VA to Baltimore and Rockville, finally settling in Urbana, Md a suburb outside of DC with my grandmother during through my teen years.
During my early years, I frequently switched schools due to fighting, a reflection of the turmoil I was experiencing. My teenage years were troubled by drug use, distribution, and violence. At 16, I was caught selling drugs, and by 19, I faced the possibility of 20 years in prison for assault and drug charges. This was a turning point in my life.
Determined to turn things around, I ventured into entreprenuership, starting 3 businesses that all eventually failed. Parallel to this, I nurtured my passion for music engineering and production, focusing on elevating others, especially my brother. Tragically, in 2016, he passed away. His death led me to take a hiatus from music and focus on building a successful construction business, which honed my leadership skills.
Yet, music remained a relentless passion, always pulling me back. I managed to redevelop my studio and continued my pursuit in music. The loss of my brother was followed by the loss of my cousin and several friends to drug use. These losses reinforced my decision to be a positive influence on entrepreneurs and artists facing similar struggles. This is my way of giving back and committing seriously to my craft.
"Soul Searching" is a candid reflection of my journey through the twists and turns of industry life and personal growth. It's about navigating the hollow vibes of fake friends, attracted more to my success and wealth than to me as a person. This path led me to ponder the true essence of love, questioning what lies ahead. I grapple with uncertainties about the future and how to carve my path forward, all while seeking a sense of peace amidst the chaos. It's a story of learning, unlearning, and relearning the values that define my existence and happiness.
My ealiest memory of listening to music Is when I was 3 years old living in norfolk virgina. My dad had a big screen tv and the music video to "Teen Spirit" by nirvana was playing.
In 5th grade I had to walk a half a mile to the bus. My dad bought me an mp3 player that held 50 songs. One of the songs on the mp3 was a bone thugs song that had the music pay out after the song. When that song lyrics would end i started making up my own words. That helped me gain confidence from actually being able to come up with my own rhymes.
Hiphop/ Rap
I feel I started digging a little deeper into myself and begun expelling emotions I had burried. Even if I dont say much in a song, I feel the delivery and the performance paints a picture.
I think I would tour with J Cole . I admire his work ethic and I feel like hes super calculated and experienced. I would like to learn from the best in how to opperate in the industry.

This legacy stems from a blend of drive and work ethic, coupled with creativity and passion that are both perfected and uniquely non-homogeneous.
