We are excited to share Lars' new track "Poison"! Our goal at SongBlog is to highlight outstanding new music and give you a peek at the artist’s world behind the music. In this blog we get a chance to sit down with Lars to learn all about the inspiration, concepts, and creative energy that it took to create and produce "Poison". We hope you enjoy and please feel free to ask Lars anything!
Who are you and what do you do?
Answer:

My name is Lars and during the day I get paid to babysit adult businesses (Nightclub and Bar Insurance Agent). At Night, I write and produce music, then I play it to people live.

How does your background play into this song?
Answer:

For this song in particular, I think it encompasses how I am personally with certain habits. For others, I think they can relate to this track in relationships. Poison is a track about trying to let go, but you cannot help getting sucked back in.

What is your earliest memory of listening to music?
Answer:

I have so many memories, so I can list some of my favorites. I remember when I first got an iPod mini and going on vacation to see my grandpa in Florida. I remember being in the back seat of our rental car just listening to the same songs on repeat on my iPod.

Another memory was during the Limewire era. My brother had a MacBook and I would just lay in his bed and listened while he played and discovered music.

Lastly, my dad always made me mow the lawn. An annoying task for a young boy, but I loved it because I could put on my headphones and just get lost in music!

At what moment in your life did you decide to become an artist / performer?
Answer:

I had been DJing since I was 16, but in the beginning it was experimental and fun. This continued through college for fun parties. Through this timeframe my love for electronic music continued to grow and I knew I was a great DJ because of the energy I could feel from people when I was behind the decks. Then after college some friends and I were backpacking in Europe, I think we were laying on the floor of our hostel in Vienna, and I looked over at my friends and said, I think I'm going to make music for a living. I must have been 22 years old by then. Thought about it for another two years. Decided in 2018 to move home and be an intrapreneur with my family business and to make time for teaching myself music production.

What genres does this release play into?
Answer:

I guess this is deep / progressive house. It it always hard for me to pick a specific genre. I use the binary system at this point. Kick and a clap, it's house. Kick and no clap, it's Techno.

How has your sound and style evolved in the last 3 years?
Answer:

Definitiely! I wouldn't say I have a particular "sound" just yet, but I am starting to hone things in within the spectrum of the music I not only create, but DJ too.

What themes do you explore throughout your music?
Answer:

Hmmm tough one to answer. When I think about music I just write until I feel something. It does not have to hit a specific emotion, just an emotion. And then I think about the tension required to really express that emotion. I would say if I had to choose one, I like to go inspirational/motivating.

If you could go on tour with any artist, who would it be and why?
Answer:

Swedish House Mafia - they are my biggest inspirations. Everything from their sound to their style to their brilliance in their marketing. There is just so much I could learn from those 3 kings!

How would you describe your favorite artist's music to someone who has never heard them before?
Answer:

Powerful

Answer:

Powerful

If you could attend a performance by any artist, dead or alive, who would you choose and why?
Answer:

Daft Punk. My heart is so satisfied that Swedish House is back together, but I was too young to witness the live Daft Punk era. They are who turned me onto electronic music.

What is your favorite song you have made, and why?
Answer:

I would say Poison, because the singer is my best friend's younger brother. Being able to bring out the talent in others, especially those closest to me makes me really happy.

If you could only listen to three artists for the rest of your life, who would you choose and why?
Answer:

Swedish House Mafia, Tiesto, Satin Jackets. SHM and Tiesto because they just deliver for me every time. Satin Jackets so that I can chill out sometimes with the tempo haha.

What does your dream performance look like?
Answer:

Main Stage Ultra Miami - the day will come it is just a matter of when

Who is your dream artist or musician to collaborate with?
Answer:

Right now, I'd love to collaborate with Vintage Culture. He has such a professional and unique vibe about him. I also want to embrace more of the latin culture because it is so passionate.

What is the strangest place where you have discovered a new song?
Answer:

How does one answer this question? haha. Probably my own head. You don't want to go in there, but maybe you do...

What do you want people to feel when they listen to your music?
Answer:

I want them to feel that they are not alone

What three words would you want your fanbase to use to describe you?
Answer:

Passionate. Kind. Fun.

What is your favorite way of sharing your music?
Answer:

DJing it to people. I love the stage. I love the speakers. It is my happy place!

Do you practice? How has your practice changed over time?
Answer:

Of course. I think my stubborness helps me in a way. I love to learn, but I live by the motto "create more than you consume". If you want to get better at making music, start making music!

What is the most memorable response you've had to your work?
Answer:

"I believe in you". A friend told me that once, and it was when I was at the lowest point of my life. His words were the reason I kept pushing forward. Sometimes that's all someone needs to hear.

What is your definition of success as an artist? How do you measure this success?
Answer:

If I make a track and it puts a smile on a face of some stranger across the world, then I have succeeded. I think stardom is often a misconception with musical success. When you are passionate about music, you are already happy. The spotlight becomes the bi-product of your passion and devotion to it.

How do you plan on being a game-changer within your genre?
Answer:

I think time will tell on the music side of things. For me, I just remain myself. I use my real name as my stage name. This is who I am. And I think that really resognates with people when they see me perform.

What role do you believe the artist has in our society?
Answer:

Ask anyone what they would do if money were not a thing. They would travel and make music. Artists play such an important role in our society because music is the last thing people think about until they hear a certain song, and then suddenly it is the only thing you can think about.

Name a song that best represents success to you, and why?
Answer:

Music is the answer - I hate defining success. If you start every morning with your favorite music, I promise you will start living a happier life.

What has been your scariest experience while pursuing music?
Answer:

MONEY! - It is the struggle for most of us. It take a lot of time and money to pursue music. Deciding where and what to spend the dollars you have is terrifying!

What has been your most embarassing moment while pursuing music?
Answer:

I have defintely had shows go poorly back in the day which is always tough to swallow, but you cannot reap the fruit without planting the seeds.

If you could alter the music industry in any way, what would you change and why?
Answer:

It is so hard to say because it is ever changing. I honestly think as it evolves it has only gotten better for helping smaller Artists. Anyway to help promote music to give the little guys their chance is always great.

What jobs have you done other than being an artist?
Answer:

I have served gourmet popcorn as a store clerk. I was a ballperson at the US Open. I knocked on houses to sell replacement windows. I have been part of traveling street teams in marketing and sales. I have been a financial consultant. Currently I am an Insurance Agent that helps Nightclubs and Bars.

How have your other passions reinforced your process of making music?
Answer:

There is definitely a lot of perspective you learn. I have a lot of individual hobbies. I played collegiaite tennis which helps my mental toughness of not giving up. I also have been on a snowboard my entire life and the creativity and flow of free-riding plays a part as well. There are always small lessons that can relate to anything you do in life. The older I get, the more I understand that.

Has being an artist made your life lonely? How do you counteract this?
Answer:

Yes. It is a lonely road. You have to be willing to sacrifice a lot. People really only want to be a part of something that is already exisiting. I have fought so many mental battles and at the end of the day you HAVE to be the one who believes in yourself. I know that in the end, it will all be worth it!

How would you define having an artistic outlook on life?
Answer:

I look at it long term. It really works a part of my brain I never knew existed. Working with music is challenging and rewarding which is why I will never retire from it.
