Song reviewed by:
We are excited to share T.A.P.'s new track "Come Back Home"! Our goal at SongBlog is to highlight outstanding new music and give you a peek at the artist’s world behind the music. In this blog we get a chance to sit down with T.A.P. to learn all about the inspiration, concepts, and creative energy that it took to create and produce "Come Back Home". We hope you enjoy and please feel free to ask T.A.P. anything!
Who are you and what do you do?
Answer:

We are T.A.P. The African Project. Originally funded in 2020 by World Fusion Music Productions LLC who helped us build a small studio in Lagos Africa. We are independent artists working together to break the mold of pay to play. This is the norm in Nigeria. At our studio (which is now run by Akanni Temiyato Bello owner of Afrojunk Media Productions) we pay our artists to play. We are building a community of artists with soul and style. After organizing our music group our fans and supporters are now helping us keep making music. We have experimented with afro/pop mixes, hip hop/afrobeat mixes and pop. This year of 2023 we are finding our sound and developing our brand. Debbie Magic sings Come Back Home. She is our youngest singer who we are now trying to promote and bring her magic energy and moving voice into the international community. We are excited to share her first release Come Back Home. We hope people will enjoy this song and send it on to others to listen. We are currently working on our next song. It's Alright. Debbie is our featured singer.

How does your background play into this song?
Answer:

This song is a story about a person who left the love of their life. A relationship that was their safe place, their home only to end up in a bad relationship. Their passion was restored and their eyes were opened to see the cold loveless relationship they got caught up in and they make the decision to return home to their first love.

What is your earliest memory of listening to music?
Answer:

Debbie Magic the featured singer of Come Back Home was born listening to music as young as in her ma ma's tummy.  She started singing as soon as she started talking. She has been singing in various groups, in a variety of places and performances since she was 6 years old.

At what moment in your life did you decide to become an artist / performer?
Answer:

Debbie has always wanted to be a performing singer. Now her dream is becoming a reality so it is a very exciting time in her life.

What genres does this release play into?
Answer:

Come Back Home is a blend of hip hop and afro beat sounds.

How has your sound and style evolved in the last 3 years?
Answer:

T.A.P. started out with June as our featured singer. Dreaming and We Will Find A Way are both pop songs. June did a great job but we wanted to show our culture more and express our souls. We began to do a blend. June sings The Walls Came Down bringing in African sounds and singers as back up. This song was experimental. June began to do her own shows and Silver became our featured singer. Silver has a smooth voice that is nice to listen to. We began to blend a pop structure with some touches of the local language in the song and afro beats. Silver did several songs in this style. I Am Dreaming. God Is Love. Love Is Bigger. Love Is Alive. During this time Odem Bassey joined us and became a back up singer some of our songs. She is the featured singer of Home and It's Christmas. Recently Debbie Magic joined us and we are now working to release afrobeat/hip hop blends with her help.

What themes do you explore throughout your music?
Answer:

Our music comes from our lives. Our relationships, our beliefs, our everyday lives. We sing about life struggles, real life situations, relationships, Love, God who is Love.

How would you describe your music to someone who has never heard it before?
Answer:

Our music is a blend of culture and sounds. We have worked with international producers, sometimes instrumentalists, sound engineers, and songwriter. We are just finding our true sound this year as we focus on our own culture and sounds. We are now becoming a blend of afrobeat and hip hop.

What is your favorite song you have made, and why?
Answer:

At this time Come Back Home with Debbie Magic is our favorite song because we feel it is the sound we want to become known for. It has soul, energy and a story of life as well as a unique blend of afro beat and hip hop working nicely together throughout the song.

What do you want people to feel when they listen to your music?
Answer:

We want people to be encouraged, inspired, moved and motivated by our music.

What is your favorite way of sharing your music?
Answer:

We share our music on Spotify, BandCamp, Amazon music, ITunes, SoundCloud, and in stores all over the world because we want to reach the world with our music.

What is your definition of success as an artist? How do you measure this success?
Answer:

Our identiy is wrapped up in being ourselves. Authentic. Real. Honest. Bringing the music into the world that is in our souls and part of who we are as individuals and as a group. Each song is a collaboration of several artists working together. It takes all of us to make our music happen. We believe we will be successful when we have a million streams on spotify. Our goal is to get our music into the whole world and reach as many people as possible.

What three words would you want your fanbase to use to describe you?
Answer:

African, authentic, moving

How do you plan on being a game-changer within your genre?
Answer:

We have been and continue to experiment with mixing sounds and finding the perfect singer to bring our afrobeats to their best. We think we have finally found this with Debbie Magic. She is young and so is our music and we look forward to growing together into a unique authentic sound that moves our listeners and has them wanting more of the same.

If you could alter the music industry in any way, what would you change and why?
Answer:

We are a group that is trying to change the music industry in Africa. We believe it is possible to make a difference. We artists to get paid to play. Give artists the opportunity to actually make money making music. It is very difficult to do so in Africa. We pay to play. We do not have laws in place and organizations that are as active in supporting artists as the USA or Europe. It is really hard to make a living as an independent musician. We can sign with labels and publishers here but most who do don't make any income. Our hope is to create a community of artists supporting artists who are collaborating internationally and getting paid to play. This is happening in our studio and several artists are benefiting from being part of our group now.

Do you have one main reason driving you to continue making music?
Answer:

We believe music is the universal language that can cross over all barriers of humanity. We are excited to be making music people want to listen to and that is an expression of our lives which relate to all people everywhere. If one song brings some good into one life it is all worth it for us. Plus we love what we do. Making music together.
