At what moment in your life did you decide to become an artist / performer?
Answer:

I've written songs for as long as I can remember - I started playing open mics in my hometown when I was 14. In the last three or four years, I finally began taking my music more seriously.

How does your background play into this song?
Answer:

I felt a lot of anxiety in my early 20s about making the right decisions. With social media and the world we live in, there’s so many paths available and people telling you how to do things the ‘right’ way. Sweet Fantasy is about questioning your own decisions, wondering whether you’re on the right path and thinking about all the alternate lives you could be living. Writing the song helped me come to terms with the fact that most of the time there is no right or wrong way to live, and there’ll always be unknowns.

Who are you and what do you do?
Answer:

Hi! I'm Joseph Bell, an alt-pop singer-songwriter / producer based in London, originally from Shrewsbury.

How has your sound and style evolved in the last 3 years?
Answer:

I'm definitely more comfortable in myself than I used to be - that's a main thing. I know what kind of music I want to make, and I've learnt to trust myself in making it.

What has been your most embarassing moment while pursuing music?
Answer:

I was once on BBC Radio 1 with my Dad, for a feature called 'Where do you think they were?'. My Dad had to talk about how I was conceived live on radio whilst I reacted.

What is your definition of success as an artist? How do you measure this success?
Answer:

I think just having the opportunity to make music and share it with other people is the best part - I love seeing the reaction of a room full of people when I play live. If I can make a song that means something to people, no matter how many, that's successful to me - although it would be nice to reach lots and lots of people too!
