Who are you and what do you do?
Answer:

Hi, I'm Evan Kreutz. I am an artist and producer from South Jersey, but more than anything I am an entertainer. I pride myself in capturing audiences' attention with my talent and charismatic personality. With this combination, I have seen a good amount of success performing in New Jersey, Philadelphia, and New York City, and look forward to branching out across the world!

How does your background play into this song?
Answer:

I have been performing/singing since I was 12, so my musical ability has remained a constant throughout my life. Regarding 'Tell Me to Go', throughout my life I have been one to fall in love with some of my friends, causing tension in the relationship. Being that I did not want to ruin a good friendship, I often would have to suffer in silence, repressing my true feelings just to keep that person in my life regardless of how much it hurt not to be honest. This song was an easy one to write considering I know the feeling of this situation well, so I am happy to believe the lyrics and instrumentation reflect these emotions perfectly!

What is your earliest memory of listening to music?
Answer:

My earliest memory of listening to music was brought to me by my father. He was a big fan of classic rock so many of my first memories revolve around Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Lynard Skynard, CCR, and many other all-time great bands!

At what moment in your life did you decide to become an artist / performer?
Answer:

While I always believed I would be a performer my entire life from a young age, the idea of becoming an artist first came when I got to college. It was at this time I not only started experimenting with my own sound but was heavily supported by those around me to create and explore my passion, which I am so grateful to have had.

What genres does this release play into?
Answer:

'Tell Me to Go' plays into the Indie-Pop genre, delivering an almost perfect coffee-shop/easy listening vibe for audiences. For this song, Coldplay was a heavy influence helping me put my own spin on a style I truly enjoy!

If you could go on tour with any artist, who would it be and why?
Answer:

I would love to go on tour with the Backseat Lovers. I absolutely love how their songs dance between heartfelt acoustics to Indie/Alternative jams, combining an excellent use of space, dynamics, and tone. They are a huge inspiration for my own music, ultimately inspiring me to one day create my own band making similar stuff.

How has your sound and style evolved in the last 3 years?
Answer:

This question is hilarious to me because my creative process has truly been all over the place. When I first started producing original music, I was mainly interested in making hip-hop/Pop songs, however as I have continued to grow in both my playing ability and musical knowledge, I have moved towards genres I enjoy listening too. These days, I still have a tendency to sometimes make hip-hop beats, however, my main focus is replicating a classic song and telling a story within the Pop Rock vein, sometimes leaning into my liking for Punk Pop music. Like I said, I'm all over the place but a good song is a good song!

How would you describe your favorite artist's music to someone who has never heard them before?
Answer:

I would describe my favorite music artist as someone that uses dynamics and space extremely well. Sometimes, as producers, we get excited by trying to fit every sound we can possibly think of in a song, when in reality, simple sometimes works best. The ability to tell a story with not just the lyrics, but production is one of my favorite things music has to offer, and I strive to learn everything I can about the art.

How would you describe your music to someone who has never heard it before?
Answer:

I would describe my music as catchy. This is something I know I am good at. Creating catchy melodies has always been a strength, so regardless of the genre/vibe I have a good feeling something in each song will get stuck in the listener's head. I would like to pair this talent with true musical expertise in my music. As I continue to grow, I am excited to toy with this combination being that my possibilities for creation are limitless!

If you could attend a performance by any artist, dead or alive, who would you choose and why?
Answer:

If I could see any artist live I would love to see the Backseat Lovers again. I also love My Chemical Romance and Panic! At the Disco, being that Gerard Way and Brendan Urie both have amazing voices. I'd also love to see a show by ELO and the Beatles, being their production for their time period was way ahead of their times! While this wasn't part of the question, I'd love to see Frank Ocean in the studio, and his process for production and recording, as he is truly one of a kind.

What is your favorite song you have made, and why?
Answer:

My favorite song I have made has not been released yet! While I really love 'Tell Me to Go' as it is one of my more simple songs that still packs a punch, I really love 'Reservation for One', as the lyrics still hold true to who I am today, and I think the genre/production is very close to what I like to listen to daily!

Who is your dream artist or musician to collaborate with?
Answer:

I would love to collaborate with Frank Ocean, The Beatles, or the Backseat Lovers. I enjoy all these artists for their unique sounds and would love to see how each work when making a song.

What does your dream performance look like?
Answer:

A dream of mine is to perform at Red Rocks. I have never been to the venue, but it looks absolutely beautiful! I would love to get the crowd involved as much as I can and just get lost in each song, hearing them sing back the many lyrics I wrote in my parents' basement. It's a stark contrast, I know.

What is your favorite way of sharing your music?
Answer:

My favorite way of sharing music is performing them in intimate settings, where I can give attention to each audience member. This is where I am able to truly show my personality on top of my ability to entertain anyone!

What do you want people to feel when they listen to your music?
Answer:

If anything, I want people to feel like their day got a little bit better from before they listened to one of my songs. The ability to inspire positive emotions with lyrics listeners can understand and agree with is truly beautiful!

What three words would you want your fanbase to use to describe you?
Answer:

I don't have specific words in mind, but I want listeners to feel like I am their friend. I want to make audiences feel comfortable and happy knowing and understanding what I am about. On top of the music, I want my whole vibe to resemble a good time, not just echoing my lyrics but also laughing and smiling with me because life is good.

What is the most memorable response you've had to your work?
Answer:

The most memorable response I have received for my work has been from my dad, saying "You're only as good as your last delivery". This quote inspires me to stay focused and make sure every show I give is one to remember, whether its for 5 people or 50,000!

What is your definition of success as an artist? How do you measure this success?
Answer:

Success as an artist to me would be a life devoted to music, where it is the sole thing I do for a living, inspiring and entertaining anyone who wants to be apart of the journey with me!

How do you plan on being a game-changer within your genre?
Answer:

I plan on being a game-changer in my genre mostly because I haven't heard of anyone who makes music like me. One of my biggest struggles is explaining to people who my music compares to and I believe this is a gift I have to keep pouring energy into! I intend to entertain audiences by being the natural entertainer I am, not just with music but any kind of medium I can get my hands on!

What role do you believe the artist has in our society?
Answer:

I believe the artist role is becoming more and more diversified as music becomes more attainable to anyone who wants to give it a shot! At its' core though, I believe artists should be inspiring and reachable. I am not a fan of artists who think they are bigger and better than their listeners, being they would be nothing without them. I am no greater or lesser than any person and I intend to treat people as such regardless of my success.

What has been your scariest experience while pursuing music?
Answer:

My scariest experience while pursuing music has come financially. Chasing the dream of music sometimes becomes hard when you don't have the means to promote or travel properly. Being that money is a big player in the music industry, and I believe it is naive to not think that, I intend to do what I can with the means I have now, however, I think it is important to have some way of financially sustaining myself with my job. Although this sometimes can take me away from music, I make it a mission to always come back to what I love.

If you could alter the music industry in any way, what would you change and why?
Answer:

If I had the means, I would create a job where musicians can work for a salary position, whether it's producing for brands or writing for other artists, or simply exploring their own joys. I believe a big thing that slows down artists is the lack of means to get in front of audiences and sustain that lifestyle. If a salary position existed for music creators, this would increase music production while giving artists a liveable wage to continue creating and growing!

What jobs have you done other than being an artist?
Answer:

Aside from being an artist, I currently work as a Social Media analyst, learning how social media platforms work/favor content. Before this, I worked at a music store selling music equipment to learn the best products music has to offer, and before that, I worked at a music studio to learn how to increase my knowledge of recording and production. An artist is only as good at their tools!

Name three artists you’d like to be compared to.
Answer:

I'd love to be compared to Harry Styles, The Backseat Lovers, or the Beatles as they make some of my favorite songs!

Do you have one main reason driving you to continue making music?
Answer:

A main driver for my continued passion for making music is a drive to continue learning. I am fascinated with music and love coming up with new songs as it is therapy for me. If it touches a listener that is great, but I continue to do it because it truly makes me happy!

What is the most significant lesson you've learned through being an artist?
Answer:

The most significant lesson I've learned is to fall in love with the fight of the musical journey. I do this because it makes me happy at the end of the day. If making music and performing start to feel like work, then I don't think I have the right perspective on this career. My overall goal is to be happy making music, but nobody ever said that needs to be the end goal, as I am doing this every day!
