About:
Joburg-born and Naarm/Melbourne-based musician Ruby Gill may not cook like your mum, but she is leaving permanent potholes in the status quo left by the likes of Joni Mitchell and Fiona Apple and with career-defining grit, overwhelming honesty and unique insight into the worlds of birds, border security and panic attacks.
Her immense voice, heavy Jaguar, heavier piano and scarily vulnerable stage presence have appeared on festivals and stages around the world, from Oppikoppi to Woodford. She was recently awarded Emerging Artist of the Year at Port Fairy Folk Festival, and her gritty debut single "Your Mum" has now garnered over half a million streams, with critical acclaim on the likes of Triple J, Double J, The Wild Honey Pie and more. 'You Should Do This for a Living' comes out 19 August 2021.
In the words of Triple J’s Zan Rowe, “excuse me while I scrape myself off the floor.”
