About:
Stellenbosch-based singer-songwriter Otto Bam released music under the alias Oddo Bam for the first time in 2014. His first handful of songs, a four-song EP titled "The Snow Burial", opened the door to stages around South Africa and performances around the country. His music is charged with a poetic energy and angst culminating in moments of intensity and ecstasy.
Oddo Bam is always exploring ways in which music carries one through each new page that life turns, and the way music enables one to look beneath the surface, the appearance of things.
"I realised that I've always tried to bypass or somehow fix the messiness of life by telling redemptive – but sometimes untrue – stories about life and about myself. These stories became increasingly difficult to defend against the confusion and mystery of reality, and the chaos that confronts me at every turn – my sense of being at home and having a coherent identity started to give way to a sense of lostness, of homelessness, disorientation. My stories had to account for these experiences, they had to be more honest. I had to learn to tell about being lost, about wandering into obscurity with Cain – for only the lost can be found."
