The new wave-inspired electronic trio D.A.R.K. combines the varied talents of
Cranberries vocalist
Dolores O'Riordan, former
Smiths bassist Andy Rourke, and New York producer/songwriter Olé Koretsky. The idea was spawned by Rourke and Koretsky, who, after meeting in Washington, D.C., formed the production duo Jetlag in New York City. Their multi-year collaborative project bore the initial concept of D.A.R.K., but it wasn't until Rourke chanced upon
O'Riordan that they decided to create an official three-piece. After the
Cranberries singer provided her input on song ideas, D.A.R.K. recorded an album in Ontario, Canada. It was arranged and produced by the group and followed a set of influences that included
the Cure,
Depeche Mode,
David Bowie,
Magazine,
Pet Shop Boys, and
R.E.M. Glimmering first single "Curvy," released in March 2016, was a driving dance-rock track sounding more like
New Order than
the Smiths or
Cranberries. The full-length Science Agrees followed later that summer on
Cooking Vinyl. ~ Neil Z. Yeung, Rovi
